Accessibility and Accommodations at the Washington State Summer Con
The Washington State Fair and Events Center is an ADA-Compliant facility. Please visit the Washington State Fair Website for more information on their accessibility services (Some items listed pertain to the Fair in September): https://www.thefair.com/general-info/accessibility/
Entrance and Parking
Washington State Summer Con will be using the Blue and Gold Gate Entrances and the Blue and Gold Parking Lots. Accessible parking, including van-accessible parking, is available in the all Parking Lots on a first come, first serve basis.
Animal Policy
In general, animals are not permitted inside the Washington State Fair and Events Center except for the following instance:
Service animals, which the Americans with Disabilities Act defines as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. The dog must be trained to take a specific action when needed to assist the person with a disability. Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals do not qualify as service animals under the ADA. Also, service animals in training are not considered service animals under the ADA.
Restrooms
Restrooms are available throughout the fairgrounds. Wheelchair-accessible stalls, built to accommodate mobility aids, are located near gate entrances and throughout the facility. In addition, the main ShowPlex has unisex restrooms large enough to accommodate a guest in a wheelchair accompanied by an attendant.
ASL Interpreters
Please email wasummerconinfo (at) gmail.com for requests prior to the show. This will ensure priority for interpreters.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Panel Seating
All of our panel seating areas have places for wheelchair and scooter parking with companion seating. As those spot fill up, connect with an attendant and additional seats and areas will be opened to accommodate all of our attendees that need this designated space at any of our panels.
Disability Assistance Program (DAP)
Washington State Summer Con has an unwavering commitment to providing a welcoming, inclusive environment and accessible experiences for our attendees. As part of this commitment, the Disability Assistance Program (DAP) is offered at the convention to assist attendees who have difficulty with extended waits in a conventional queue environment due to a disability.
DAP doesn’t provide immediate access to celebrity guests but rather provides attendees with a disability options and resources to assist with any accommodation or need that they many have. The process is simple and doesn’t involve stickers or wristbands. Each show will feature a DAP booth staffed with representatives to assist, answer questions, and provide assistance as needed. The DAP booth is the central location to get answers, ask questions, and get the help that you need.
Success begins with Communication: All staff members on the floor are ready to assist any of our attendees. Just communicate to any staff involved with any line queue (autograph or photo ops) that you have a need for accommodation and specifically explain that need. As the crowds and lines permit, each Crew member will use their judgement to find the best way to accommodate your needs. If lines are long and any accommodation can not be immediate, a representative will help develop a plan keeping in mind your accommodations.
All panel attendants have designated ADA seating for individuals with mobility issues, hearing, or sight limitations. Identify an attendant and express your need, and they will quickly assist your needs. The accommodations might not include the front row or VIP seating, but we always will have room saved for those that need assistance along with a companion.
It is our unwavering goal to make your experience with us a great one. It starts with communication and it is accomplished with our effort to serve you.
FAQ:
Can my friends join me in line?
Singular friends – yes, Plural friends – no. Access is allowed to a plus one for help and support the attendee with a disability. The DAP Attendee has been granted this access and not the plus one. This doesn’t mean that the plus one can not purchase any items along with the DAP Attendee, but if we find that the plus one is taking advantage of the system that we have built, we may limit the opportunity for future DAP Access.
